Season of the Witch
…
Tea Party candidates aside, I’m always thrilled by the pagan good times offered by Halloween, and what is now called the Halloween season. We are approaching the time of year when many cultures consider the membrane between the worlds to be the thinnest. I enjoy celebrating the Feast of All Saints on November 1st, and praying my relatives out of purgatory on November 2nd, All Souls’ Day. Also, I love ghosts and candy. Year-round, I’m thrilled by the sight of these shutters on a house in my neighborhood. Most shutter cutouts are neutral hearts and stars and candles and such. But these.Yes! They are witches! And the shingles are painted an inky blue-violet! My pointy hat is off to you, dear neighbor, for your hard-wired salute to primordial feminine power. Blessed be.
