Sects, Love, and Rock & Roll: Live in New York
…
Old-time Buddha-killer Joel Heng Hartse has a new book coming out in a few days, Sex, Love, and Rock & Roll: My Life on Record, and those of you in New York can catch him live for a reading. October 15th, 7 p.m., at All Things Project at the Neighborhood Church of Greenwich Village. That’s 269 Bleecker Street in Manhattan.
Here’s the blurb:
A reading from the new book Sects, Love, and Rock & Roll, “a book about how listening to music makes us who we are, and an exploration of the intersections between evangelical Christian culture and the pop music scene. In these pages, Joel Heng Hartse, a youth group dropout turned music critic, riffs on bands ranging from Weezer to Creed, from Sufjan Stevens to dc Talk, from Jeff Buckley to mewithoutYou, mixing laugh-out-loud humor with thoughtful reflection to explain how his obsession with rock & roll has shaped his faith (and vice versa), and how living in the shadow of God and guitars can transform all of us.”
With musical guest Matt Basinger.
See y’all there.
