What If They Try to Take Someone You Love?

Masked goons are wilding in DC today. We’ve heard they belong to ICE but their faces are covered, there are no uniforms, no badges, no insignia. How can we know? At one restaurant they went to, Chang Chang, in Dupont, the manager asked if they had a warrant and, without answering, two goons tried to rush the manager and get into the kitchen – but – other staff jumped in and helped keep them out. Parents at Mundo Verde on P Street made a human chain to keep the goons at bay; the entire school dismissed classes before 1 p.m. Daycares are texting parents contingency plans. My coworker, a DC parent, gave me updates all day from her various parent chats; I gave her updates I was seeing on bluesky. Goons seen dragging someone down a block; reports of someone dragged from a car. Is it ICE? We’ve heard this is ICE but there’s no way to know. We’ve heard this is an operation, that it will last all week, that they hope to detain 1,000 a day. I read later that they only managed to detain 7. On whose authority? If masked goons without badges try to take someone you love will you let them? Are they the authority? Whose authority? Who’s in charge here? Everyone in DC is texting each other pictures with instructions for what to do, what our rights are, that we should always demand a warrant if they demand to search, that we should never open the door. Masked goons are wilding in DC today.
