Send Us Photos: What’s on Your Shelf?
Gentle Reader, who are you? We suspect you’re literate, thoughtful, occasionally in tune with the sentimental sublime, and susceptible to spells of nostalgia. In fact, we’re willing to bet that most of you have a shelf or two, and that somewhere on that shelf—or bookcase, mantelpiece, windowsill, or headboard— you’ve got a small bounty of objects, each with a story of its own. Our hunch is that a glance at our tchotchke shelves and knick-knack korners will reveal the altars of ourselves.

Rosaries, a kiddush cup, the Battlestar Galactica, two AK-47 empties, a blue-painted rock, and YES WE CAN. Oh my!
Using the form below, send us a photo of your altar, with a quick caption. (It’s not necessary to explain what Captain America is doing there.) In Killing the Buddha fashion, the shelf need not be explicitly or traditionally religious, but it can be. The best submissions will be posted in a gallery on the site next month. As further incentive, we offer a bookish prize for the authors of our favorite entries that they can add to their shelves.
